Thanks, spez / Steve Huffman. Now do us all a favor and fire yourself. It would probably drive that traffic back down slightly, but we could live with it.
There’s half a dozen apps for lemmy, Jerboa is from the lemmy devs but some people prefer others, Voyager (formerly wefwef.app) is both a web app and just released their native version for android.
I’ve been using Jerboa until today. I tried both Connect and Sync, and Sync seems to fit my needs the best. Jerboa has been quite buggy for me, especially lately it’s been crashing a lot when trying to show more comments… And Connect was quite irritating when choosing what community to visit, the swipe to show the menu barely works for me. So Sync it is!
I use liftoff, was previous rif user. Tried few others and went back to liftoff, the search feature needs a bit polishing, but it appears that way with every other app.
It gets the job done, and at least it supports avatars unlike some other apps. However, Mlem still has many issues making it the worst Lemmy app I still have on my phone.
If you go to the inbox and tap a comment, you’re supposed to go to that comment, right. Most apps do that just fine even if it’s a long thread, but mlem just kinda throws you in there somewhere and you’re left to figure out where that one new comment actaully is.
Once you’ve read that comment, you go back to the inbox and that old message is supposed to go away while the unread ones will remain. With most apps this works reasonably well, but with Mlem it’s a bit random.
If you find an interesting post with a picture, you might want to zoom into it. With all the other apps you can do that, but Mlem doesn’t have zooming yet.
What if you wrote a hasty comment and you realize there’s a typo or a factual mistake. With all the other apps you can just edit that comment, but Mlem doesn’t have the editing feature.
Have you ever wondered how many downvotes a comment or a post has received? With some apps you can actually see that, but Mlem isn’t one of them.
Usually on Lemmy you’ll find links to interesting articles, but once you click them you might want to use a very specific browser such as Firefox Focus or something. With most Lemmy apps you don’t even have that option, and Mlem is in that crowd.
Other than those points, Melem is a solid Lemmy app, and I’ll be keeping an eye on its development.
I’ve installed it and some parts I really like, but what kind of crazy developer you have to be to show the responses to a comment above the comment itself.
I’m sure he will be gone after their IPO. He’s the current Ellen Pao. He’s solely taking the blame for making all of the unpopular decisions that they decided as a group that they need to make to have a successful IPO. After the IPO they “fire” him with a wink, nudge, and a massive severance package. Soulless investors are happy (temporarily). Spez is happy. And slowly over years, Reddit’s growth declines as the product continues to get worse, so they keep squeezing more and more money out of the people too stubborn to leave.

Just registered here. Is there an app like rif but for lemmy?

This is my first post from Voyager native.
Voyager is so beautiful! I’m using it on Android and I really like it, even if it replicates the iOS experience

I recommend Connect. Been using it for a few weeks and it’s only gotten better.
Check: connect for lemmy, infinity for lemmy, voyager for lemmy, liftoff for lemmy

Deinstalled sync and installed liftoff. Got similar minimalistic vibes I know from rif. Thanks.
you can make sync look a lot like rif
Use Sync
If you need an iOS app, try wefwef.app or Memmy. The former is a web app whereas the latter is a normal app in the app store.
Wefwef is now known as Voyager. It’s now also available on both iOS app store and Play Store.
Couldn’t find Voyager on the app store yet. Is it still in alpha?
In the meanwhile, the address is still wefwef.app even though the name changed recently to Voyager.
Voyager is on the play store as of today!
EDIT: Play store, not app store. It’s still in TestFlight.
That’s the play store, not the app store.
On iOS here, searching Voyager just brings up a bunch of crypto stuff and a couple travel apps.
Ah, sorry. I think it’s on testflight
Oh that one works. Thank you!
It’s called Voyager now. But yes best Lemmy client, basically a Apollo clone
Mlem is good too
It gets the job done, and at least it supports avatars unlike some other apps. However, Mlem still has many issues making it the worst Lemmy app I still have on my phone.
what issues?
Other than those points, Melem is a solid Lemmy app, and I’ll be keeping an eye on its development.
I am using sync for lemmy and the experience is quite smooth and magical.
I’ve installed it and some parts I really like, but what kind of crazy developer you have to be to show the responses to a comment above the comment itself.
