    No, most TV in Germany is either paid and with ads (ARD, ZDF, or private stations with HD+) , or free and with even more ads (RTL, Pro7 etc. in SD resolution). Paid TV without ads (Sky) is only used by a small minority

    And the few ad supported stations that are free are only free if you use Satellite TV, half of Germany still uses cable TV and has to pay a monthly fee to Vodafone for those, in addition to our broadcasting fees that everyone has to pay

      Okay, it is possible to get them for free (except the ÖR which I forgot, because the fee is mandatory for each household) which is what I meant but yes, there are lots of ads, but american TV also has I would say as many ads.
