I used to hitch hike a LOT, and a lady once asked me that. Just like this cartoon.
I replied “as long as you don’t murder me”
She laughed…
I got in the car…
We drove off.
I haven’t seen her since.

I wonder how much “metrics” data is sent home?
I don’t blame anyone for failing to teach imperial. It’s surreal.
I grew up with both (gen x Australian), and when I lived through the transition, metric is a godsend.
Feet. Pound. Stone. All I see are objects. But they are easily objective to the imagination.
There are now only 2 countries left I believe, dragging their heels, and officially using Imperial
Panniers are a game changer. Love mine
Every time. I believe the 2 cloves thing is really an approximate in the industry.
I had a recipe last week that specifies 11 small cloves. That raised my eyebrow.
So, to keep to form, I put in 12.
No recipe is going to tell me how much garlic I should use!
I’ve worked in quite a few places in Brisbane, and never had a shower (that I was aware of).
That was a while ago though, so good to see things are changing.
I remember one particular summer, just walking from the valley train station, about 1 km to work. It was before 8am. A very hot summer.
By the time I got to work my shirt was stuck to me from the sweat. Soaked. That was before 8am.
I can’t imagine riding. I’d have been dripping puddles if I’d have ridden.
You’d enjoy the yidingi nation in Cairns then.
They have their own governer general, police, taxation department and more.
They have an immigration department, and you can even apply to be a citizen.
They are a nation, and are recognised as such by a fair chunk of overseas countries.
They literally were dual policing, in public, with the Queensland police, side by side, on nadoc week, and have their own vehicles, officers and more.
When you see that, and you see this guy from Tasmania, his claim doesn’t feel so far fetched anymore.
If he’s from the nation that traditionally owns the land being logged, and he protests on his own land, then from a human perspective I feel for him. From a legal perspective though, situations like the yidingi of the north will probably need to be tested first.
That’s nice. I just don’t see showers and change rooms, with bike storage and whatnot becoming the norm. It would be great if it did, but I think it would be a long way off. Fingers crossed though
If I ride in summer to a meeting, I’m going to need a shower and a full change of clothes. That’s not practical. Sure, at can implement infrastructure (showers) everywhere, and places to store our sopping wet sweaty clothes maybe, but it’s just not going to fly.
Definitely introduce infrastructure, and get people on bikes.
But let’s not live in fantasy land that the humidity makes riding to work in summer a no for most people, who need to be clean, dry, and have non sweat soaked clothes at work.
I honestly didn’t read it, but, can people not be sacked anymore?
I’ve been sacked when I was young, and I damn well deserved it. It was a wakeup call. Never made that mistake again.
The heat in qld. The humidity in summer cannot be understated.
Unless they want to breed healthy offspring maybe? Who can say.
Americans might know it as the more accurate “tunsend of corn kernels”. Or similar to a “heft of wayfarer”, or a “diggerty of pebbly straw silk”.
When you want to do a portrait, but you want to do a still life.
Here… hold this fruit basket.
And so it begins. Soon this will be real time reporting.
Haha. I moderate !watercolor@lemmy.ml
But there’s a great one called art share. Another is traditional art.
There’s some great communities
Art communities are usually encouraging
Yes. Looking down at that angle is also a hard no.
I’ve been learning traditional art for nearly 2 years now. I suck constantly.
Then very rarely I paint something I like.
I find I paint things I like more often now than previously.
This stuff takes time. Stick with it.
