Those canines are “primarily used to chew up wood and other tough foods” as per one of the articles, but male adult camels may also use those to bite opponents when fighting with each other for territory / mates.

Nope, there are different types of camel, not all of them have canines, but some do. Also females have smaller ones than males.
Just do an image search of camel teeth and you’ll find lots with large fighting canines.
That’s exactly what I did though: it was mostly flat teeth.
