I have looked and I see people make their own instance of lemmy
But how would I create a community on lemmy.world?
Say I wanted to make a community for a certain game discussion
Pro-tip: if you are trying to figure out if a website has a feature, try the default web interface first.
Do it, then. There’s CREATE COMMUNITY button above your thread.
TFW you realize not everybody accesses lemmy the same way
🤔
It’s common knowledge.
It really isn’t.
It is - accessing a social site via desktop or app has been as old, as Facebook.
…but feel free to claim that the rock you’ve been hiding under for the last 10 or 20 years isn’t real… 😎
Haha bro, I used Netscape 1.0 back in the day. But okay.
Hmm. Are these visible on apps such as liftoff and sync do you know?
You might have to do it on the website, it’s not a feature people use that often
deleted by creator
Indeed, but LW creation is still allowed
I don’t know of any app that lets you do community management yet.
Not on sync yet. But if you goto lemmy.world in your browser and login in, you will have the option to create a community. It’s even easier to see the option if you switch to desktop mode.
You have a plus at the bottom of the screen
That let’s me choose a community to post to
Oh yeah sorry I got confused
No clue, never used an app to browse such sites.
Still, I don’t see why they shouldn’t be visible, if you browse same site/same content on the app.
They sure are. I’ve made one. It’s just like creating a subreddit.
Yep you can, but it probably has to be through the web interface instead of an app. I created !technicaldeathmetal@lemmy.world myself a few weeks ago, there were no restrictions. It’s literally just the button, then you go through a setup wizard.
Depends on the instance. Here on Lemmy.World, it’s allowed and encouraged, but on some instances they don’t want the traffic and storage.
On most instances, yes, you can create your own on the web interface. Some instances may have community creation disabled though.

Some instances don’t allow it, lemmy.world does. Probably not doable in the apps yet so do it in-browser.
Yes you can.
