Republicans dropped Rep. Jim Jordan on Friday as their nominee for House speaker, making the decision during a closed-door session after the hard-edged ally of Donald Trump failed badly on a third ballot for the gavel.
The blocked-House impasse deepening, Republicans have no realistic or workable plan to unite the fractured GOP majority, elect a new speaker and return to the work of Congress that has been languishing since hard-liners ousted Kevin McCarthy at the start of the month.
I think there is an easy but painful way out, vote for Jeffries.
The easier (and less painful) way out is to elevate SpongeBob… Er… Patrick temporarily to get shit done. But the idiots on the Right don’t want to do anything at all that includes Democratic votes. They are acting like they have a 40 seat majority , not a 4 seat majority.
He himself doesn’t want his role to be elevated and is threatening to quit if they do that. And if they want him to be the speaker he wants to be officially elected.
Good on him for that, and may we all follow in his footsteps; don’t accept additional work responsibilities unless it comes with the title, pay, perks, etc.
I could be mistaken but I thought he was threatening to quit when some Republicans were floating the idea of him doing more without elevating his role with a vote. Like just start doing speaker stuff anyway.
I oppose Republicans, but I don’t want to see that done either. They should either eliminate the position entirely (change the Constitution) or elect someone. If they can’t elect someone, then Congress should grind to a halt until it’s done, and we deserve the fallout that brings.
Because we, the people, voted for this shit show.
Hopefully we do better next go around
Not all of us, but yeah, large swaths of gerrymandered (and not) population did.
There’s also the classic problem of “they’re all crooks and bums… except my guy.”
We? Fuck no.
Keebler elf is immediately what I thought.
They act like they have all 435 seats regardless of if they have a majority or a minority.
