Did something happen with Godot that caused the lost sponsors…?

Edit: this thread has some discussion if you’re out of the loop like me

    https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/1ft26by/what_is_going_on_with_the_wogot_engine/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Kinda sounds like Godot did pretty much nothing wrong and it’s just a bunch of internet drama? Hard to tell honestly

It was the official discord until earlier this year, so it’s kinda not just “some unofficial server”. Also, the mod in question was using racial slurs. Granted, the Godot foundation also split ways with them.

Additionally there was something about an over zealous community manager blocking people over responses that supposedly weren’t all that inflammatory or bad? I’m not super sure there, I’ve only kinda half been paying attention to it

Yes, the Twitter drama is the actual drama, not the discord stuff. Their official Twitter posted a relatively harmless “woke” tweet, which got met with the usual derogatory replies you would expect on Twitter. They then deleted all those replies and blocked their authors, but also deleted and blocked tons of regular replies to the tweet.

The following statement by their community manager also pissed off a lot of people, because they were asking everyone that got blocked to manually appeal the block, instead of just taking their time to review the tweets they deleted and unblocking people

Even then it’s still a minor drama that is getting blown out of proportion

They made a cheeky tweet asking for people to share their projects while referencing a lowlife saying that “using 3rd party engines is woke”

cockroach “people” then jumped in on it triggering a harassment campaign

Please dont call people lowlifes or cockroaches or “people” thats such a Nazi way of expressing your thoughts. Im sure there are better insults that dont involve calling them “subhuman”.

For those objecting to this it’s absolutely true. Fight Nazis, with guns when necessary, but do not be misled into believing they are wholly alien or inhuman. That’s how you end up living in the middle of a bunch of Nazis without realizing their Nazis.

Remember the most pathetic thing about these people is they they are as human as everyone else, they just actively decided to utterly lobotomize their empathy and compassion.

The last thing I want is to normalize dehumanizing people

Maybe it comes from being a part of a group that has historically been dehumanized but it always leads to bad outcomes

Ah. I misread the post, I follow what the guy is saying and what your title was about now.

And yeah that’s more or less the basic jist I was getting. Seems like a really dumb thing for people to be upset over.

I no longer identify as a “gamer” it’s long since been coopted by a group I have no desire to associate with.

Not sure what their “world” is but I imagine a lot of tendonitis from all the knee jerk reactions from the members of it

Hey that’s exactly why I’m back on Lemmy. After getting “we’ll ackshewally’d” one too many times by PC Gameurs™ I just fucking can’t anymore

Literally every game dev I know feels the same way. Gamers are the actual worst. Even when they’re not doing their culture war schtick, they’re complaining about the overhead of borderless fullscreen like it’s 2010.

Also my impression. Seems like it’s manufactured, encouragement not to engage with any of it?
