I’ve definitely turned into the paranoid nutcase within my friend group in recent years, I hate that everything is “smart” nowadays requiring an app/internet connection & account, just to do basic things that didn’t require any of that before.

What’s some things currently making you ramble like an old man?

i got to spend 30 minutes in the doctors waiting room last week and they had a pop playlist running. i rarely listen to (any) music these days and spend my time in public with earplugs jammed in my ears.

the music coming from those speakers was ungodly distracting, aggressive, poorly constructed and LOUD. i brought it up to my family and they told me i sound like an old man (45).

    i don’t think it’s just my age.

    loudness wars

Loudness wars I agree on, but music changes, and it’s natural that older people don’t understand younger people’s music. That doesn’t mean it’s bad, or wrong, or aggressive, even if it comes off that way to us. After all, we had rage against the machine, system of a down, and a lot of other “aggressive” music.

Really? I thought the loudness wars peaked around the mid 2000’s/2010’s. I feel like it’s become less prominent in the last few years

I thought so as well, with how many people listen on streaming services that by default normalize audio levels there isn’t much benefit to making loud music anymore.

Yeah, I notice differences in loudness based off what headphones I’m using. My over ear head phones make things sound louder than my ear buds do.

But I always assumed that was intentional in design.

You should peruse newer music when you have some leisure time. The only thing you’re doing is denying yourself one of the classic pleasures of discovering a new favorite song/band.
