While vote to topple his government has failed, it signals a new series of tests for the prime minister.
Fucking garbage article and headline.
Here’s one for you: “Poilievre’s non-confidence motion falls flat in parliament.”
Or perhaps…
“Conservatives fail to force favourable election schedule.”
Or maybe something simple:
“Christofascist takeover bid fails.”
I’m not a big fan of Trudeau - ESPECIALLY since he fucking reneged on electoral reform - but compared to the fuckwits in the CPC, I’ll hold my nose and support him.
(In reality, I’m in such a tory-blue riding that I’ll probably vote Green, because my MP will still get 70% of the popular vote).
Yeah media outlets need to start saying “Conservatives bring up this week’s false outrage, moral panic and pearl clutching”
Have you paid any attention the Green party lately? They’re a total mess.
Why not ndp?
Fucking garbage article and headline.
You got me to read the thing, just to see what could possibly be so offensive about it. It’s a pretty good summary of the situation for an audience that might not be too familiar with Canadian politics. Don’t blame the messenger.
If he wants to weasel out of the mess of his own doing he better remember his promise of electoral reform and pass proportional representation with the other parties.
The other parties can table this too can’t they?
It’s completely stupid and only plays to the most powerful and wealthy elite in this country … no matter if they are Liberal or Conservative
The Liberals will keep promising things like proportional representation but never deliver on it … they’ll keep pandering to leftist ideals just enough to sway voters but never enough to follow through. They’ll keep playing the game of hoping that everyone will not go with Conservatives while balancing themselves to leaning right enough that no one will notice.
I’m Indigenous Canadian and I grudgingly support the Liberals because they have done a lot for Indigenous Canada. They could do more but they always seem to hold back on everything … giving us just enough to keep us from completely revolting against them. We also know that the alternative of the Conservatives would mean we Indigenous people would lose just about everything we’ve gained in the past decade (which sounds like a lot but it isn’t … to non-Native Canada, any gain we achieve always feel like too much).
In all, like every other first world country … we don’t exist in a democracy … we exist in a plutocracy or oligarchy where only the wealthy and most powerful people get to direct our national politics. People don’t have a say … those with money do.
Always has been
Always will
I agree with your comment as first nations communities should be getting $300 billions of investment from the federal government as the peoples have been through a lot.
Though I believe Justin Trudeau hasn’t promised proportional representation as it was was his father Pierre Trudeau who talked about it a lot. Justin Trudeau focused on the promise of electoral reform as he was trying to push for the alternative ranked choice vote system however he and the other 106 corrupt elites in his party voted against creating a citizen’s assembly as the committee could’ve recommended a system under Proportional Representation that could’ve be MMP or STV.
It’s the “always will” where I disagree. This society we’ve built isn’t anything close to sustainable no matter how much lip service is given to the idea that it should be. What can’t go on forever, won’t.
At this point, PR would significantly help the Greens and NDP, and harm the BQ and Liberals badly. The LPC has no interest in doing this. They’re not altruistic. Remember, they forced an election in the heat of the pandemic in order to consolidate power.
They have also proven to be totally uncommitted to top line promises. I don’t really see how they’re a party worth voting for.
However all the MPS from the BQ have voted in favour of electoral reform on motion m-86 and have stated that they support Proportional Representation. It’s the 107 and 111 corrupt liberals and conservatives who voted against a citizens assembly on electoral reform.

It would be cool if they killed politicians if they don’t survive
Delaying the inevitable. He should have stepped down when he had the chance. His pride is going to give his party a catastrophic election loss.
I think he still has one chance - which he almost certainly won’t take.
Announce that he’ll step down when this term is up, and immediately hold a short leadership race, with the new leader vying for a brand new PM position.
To sweeten the pot, he could toss in proper PR electoral reform. It would throw cabinet into chaos, but the Greens and NDP would probably support it; and Trudeau would go down in history with the likes of Tommy Douglas as someone who fundamentally changed Canada for the better.
But his ego is too big for the first item, and the party is too scared to let him pull off the second.
So we’re likely stuck with a fucking Christofascist neo-Nazi for our next PM.
There’s other options too. Among them: a massive swing away from corporate smell along with popular pro-labor rhetoric and actions; electoral reform without stepping down; Jagmeet introducing electoral reform in the current parliament, Trudeau supporting it, etc.
I like 'em, but I’m not convinced.

Corporations - which are already pretty damned conservative - will back the CPC with ten times the money if this happens. It would be lovely, but would guarantee a Poilievre win.
electoral reform without stepping down
That will prevent the CPC (or anyone else) from securing a majority in the next election, but I don’t think it’ll win the election for him.
Jagmeet introducing electoral reform in the current parliament, Trudeau supporting it
Ah, now that’s interesting! I like this one quite a bit.
At the end of the day, I honestly don’t believe Trudeau can win another election under any reasonable circumstances. The best he can do is stack the deck in the party’s favour, and then step down.

I doubt it’ll work. There are significant limits to political spending. Corpos can’t fund political campaigns directly and there isn’t an easy or unlimited way to do it indirectly. It’s gotta go via individuals and the limits there are small. The cons will get more but I don’t think it’ll be dramatically more.

Yes.

In the current status quo probably true. Who knows what could happen with PP till the election. Perhaps something unreasonable would come out. 😅
I would take the delay along with the implementation of policies like pharmacare, and then have Poilinever having to either promise to not touch it or say he’ll cut it during the election campaign, thank you very much. There’s a lot that can happen till the next fall. Inflation is down, mortgages are falling, who knows what could come out about Pipsqueak till then.
Don’t know why you’re being downvoted. I agree completely.
I’ve voted for Trudeau’s Liberals since 2015 but I’m not casting another vote for them - not with him at the helm, nor Freeland for that matter.
If he had developed his bench and elevated others’ profiles so he could pass the torch or brought in Carney earlier, then we’d have options but he’s set the table this way. The ship will go down with him.
I’m not some F*ck Trudeau lunatic but he’s been PM for nearly a decade - its time to go, dude.
I honestly can’t think of the last PM who didn’t overstay their welcome.
Too bad.
