Uff, 8 million dollars. Wow, that will surely teach Amazon to be better next time. Ah, sorry, they already made as much in profit as I was typing this. No need to change then, keep being true to yourself, Amazon!

Still I am surprised that they got a fine at all, considering that Amazon is rarely used in Poland in general.

I guess Poles can order from German Amazon…? However, AWS should definitely have a Polish site though.

But it’s really weird, German Amazon handles most returns in Czech facilities but there’s no Czech Amazon site either.

We do have “our own” Amazon since 2021. Before that Amazon.de was available in Polish and had multiple distribution centers in Poland so it wasn’t that much of a change other than having access to vanilla Prime (we had Prime Video before).

Allegro has a near monopoly here. It started out as an Ebay clone but over time shifted to more Amazon-like business model. It’s quite nice in terms of usability and user experience compared to both.

Maybe it being used rarely actually made this fine possible?

I could see how with larger market share a company like Amazon would assert more influence on politicians and institutions to not persecute such behavior.

Like for example Ireland trying their hardest not to collect taxes from the likes of apple.

Ireland is not comparable. As the market share of a company grow, so do the demands of customers if they get mislead by the company and the interest of competititors to have legal repercussions for illegal activities.

Ireland is different, as it works as a tax haven for these companies. They don’t care about how many customers are there. They care about how much of their profit they can declare in the country with the least tax rate.

All of these fines should be exponential.

First time 8 million, second time 80, third 800 etc. Otherwise it’s just CODB.
