  • obviously a news show isn’t going to feel the same rewatching it. that’s not the point lol.

that would be like saying it’s dumb to preserve newspapers in libraries because it’s not going to feel as good rereading the “Hitler is dead” headline. people don’t look at old news to have a good time.

boy was it silly of us to preserve that kind of thing and it totally never comes in handy/s

that’s not even what people are upset about anyway. comedy Central mostly makes entertainment programming that isn’t news based and can still be enjoyed whenever. believe it or not, comedy Central has a lot of content that will stand the test of time. especially when looking at their stand-up catalogue.

this is the destruction of a library. a digital one, but a library none the less. that’s what people are mad about.

but you’re right. we should just dump all of our old movies and shows. they’re worthless moldy junk anyway… 🙄

  • it’s a good feeling unless you can’t print otherwise and the teacher is an asshole.

I had that once in highschool, so no Dean to escalate to or anything. principal took his side. the problem was, due to medical issues, i struggled to get assignments done at home. this class was 90% essays, but it was also just a history class. 100% of the material was covered in the lecture. I’m autistic and tend to remember lectures very well. so, come time for the final exam, one of the only actual in class exams, and i get nearly a perfect score. i knew the material, i just had other struggles with getting the papers done.

he used my struggle with the rest of the class as the only proof he needed to get me expelled. i had to finish my schooling at an alternative school, which was way way better anyway and honestly wasn’t a setbacm in the end. it sure set the tone for my relation with authority though.

  • we still have a couple of lemon giving phrases that survive “when life gives you lemons”. “looks like that car you bought is a lemon”

lemons are sour instead of sweet like most fruit. my guess is that a lemon is a thing to generally make your day/life worse, especially if it seemed like a good thing at first.

makes sense in the context of a “confirmed bachelor”. he’s giving that lemon to a stork. he’s not going to have children. someone married him and he’s not going to have children. back in the day that would be seen as defeating the point of marriage, though the real implication is he’s gay and married for a beard.

in the context of other relationships or a breakup they thought they were dating someone for keeps, turns out they weren’t worth it. they were a lemon, looked sweet but tasted sour when bitten into.

  • all of the “real” Martial arts from back before guns were about using weapons. those aren’t really practiced as much anymore because they’re all useless in the face of firearms anyway. why spend years training with a knife when the same time could be spent training with a gun. if combat effectiveness is your goal then you need to learn modern combat techniques.

that said, there’s plenty to be learned from it, and it’s not like it can’t help you in a fight. but as another commenter said, the real way to win every fight is by avoiding them. so really the best thing to learn is de-escalation and recognizing danger.

  • their point is that this is a game with maybe 50 still image assets and absurdly simply gameplay. it could be like 2MB, but it was likely built on preexisting assets and code that don’t try to be lightweight.

the point is that 10 years ago the exact same game would have been like 25MB at most. I’m not familiar enough with the changes in the tools used by Indy devs in the time, but my guess is that it’s where you’ll find the reason.

  • honestly, I always feel so much more part of the conversation here. on Reddit, unless you time it just right and browse young posts, chances are your comment will never be seen. on here you’ll be one of 50 top level comments at most. and that’s only the biggest threads. it would be nice to see more activity on more threads, but often when i comment on something with no comments it’s enough to start the conversation.

almost none of my comments here get ignored, and the conversations that come out of them feel better. unless it’s about Linux. you people are insane and unapproachable when it comes to operating systems. not because you’re wrong, you’re just… a lot.

  • eh, as a photographer that works weddings, any wedding without a planner is hell for me. i might actually just say no if that’s the case.

if you hire people to work it you should have a person who can be their go to while you are getting married.

if you go for an event like you describe people will be unhappy at the lack of food and leave after not long. if that’s what you want, good for you. go for it. if you want people to stick around and have a good time, you need to feed them. that’s expensive, even if you somehow make it all yourself with food from the farmers market, it’s still going to be over a thousand dollars for most people. again, unless you only invite like five people, but most people care about more than 5 people. throwing a big party of any kind isn’t cheap unless you throw a terrible party.

you don’t have to have a traditional wedding at all though. my sister got married during COVID in her backyard on video call. it was lovely. a big beautiful wedding with lots of people is also lovely and uniquely fun. just don’t let you relatives pressure you into things you don’t want. there’s where it always goes wrong.
