Welp, I had no plans of buying Palworld. I’ve been playing Enshrouded instead. But I’ll be picking it up now. Screw you Nintendo and your anticompetitive ways.
15 years ago I got a job where I wasn’t allowed to do anything. I hated it. I wanted to learn and be valuable and be valued. I left that job.
I worked for a bank and then Red Hat and I loved what I did and burned myself out trying to make them happy. Only to find out they still didn’t value me.
I switched jobs two years ago and increased my pay 30% overnight and back to a job doing nothing. And I’m totally fine with it now. I have a family and I focus on them and during work, if they don’t have anything for me to do I make my own happiness.
Fuck corporations. I’ll take your money, I’ll never again kill myself as I’ll never be valued anyway. Jobs aren’t worth it. People are.
I LOVE this bit:
"will stop measuring its success in new subscribers, but in growth byr egional revenue."
We’re hitting our self defined goals JUST fine guys!
Pays $40 billion to allow people to be shadow toxic. What an amazing innovator in our midsts. We’re all just so jealous we wish we could be so genius …
Fucking moron.
Not all companies NEED cloud and containers. But execs push it anyway. That’s my point. As I said, they have actual use, but not EVERYONE NEEDS this shit. It’s just tech-bros telling us we need it and execs being too stupid to know otherwise.
Oh shit, already forgot
The next big thing is “investing” in NFTs!
The next big thing is moving all of your servers to the cloud!
The next big thing is moving all of your software to containers!
The next big thing is moving all of your money to crypto!
The next big thing is moving everything to AI!
Yes we’re in ANOTHER tech gold rush. Not saying these things don’t have their place, but the tech industry is infatuated with the next big thing and burning through money and the ones that get burnt are the average working folks. Ask me how I know, currently in year two of a hiring and pay freeze as AWS isn’t as cheap as predicted… Who could have fucking guessed? They mean besides everyone but the CTO that’s fucking who!
In other words
Neuralink to implant 2nd human with brain chip as 85% of first one failed.
Owncast Stream whatever you want on your own platform and announce natively to the Fediverse!
IDK why but tons of folks think it’s not feasible as they need million dollar computers. I’ve streamed to 70+ open streams, albeit as a test, on a like $5/month VPS. The key is that the resources needed are how many qualities you’re transcoding, not how many folks are viewing. Yes bandwidth is needed for each viewer, but that’s significantly less than people imagine.
Full transparency I run the !owncast@lemmy.world community, but I’m in no way affiliated with the project. I just love open platforms and open source.
I stream on Owncast and really enjoy it. One of the easiest installations I’ve ever had with software. And despite what lots of folks think you don’t need a million dollars to stream to groups of folks.
Full disclosure I run the !owncast@lemmy.world community and actively promote it on Matrix if anyone is interested or need help. :-D
And who is going to verify they deleted it and how are they deleting it?
Is it about time we get analysts that monitor these companies from the inside?
I’ve been on Proton for years and I’ve had a Visionary account for years. Proton’s price doesn’t really go up, but the quality and features does immensely. They give me extra storage every year. I get more VPNs, more password managers, more and more and more. IMO they have a track that shows they care about privacy and want to make things better.
I mainly use Matrix for myself, my family, and have rooms set up for a community.
Discord I have and use as a couple groups of friends are still and basically every game dev uses Discord now and you have to go to Discord to find out any info about the game, look up tips/hints, or even report bugs. FUN!
Why? It’s not illegal, people don’t care, they’ve decimated privacy to the point no one cares, so they’re doing nothing wrong as Lon as they can justify all his horrendous shit to themselves.
It’s not spying when you directly give them access to monitor your communications. Says section 632 subsection VIIXVVIIX Subsubsection D in the 69 fine print 42. Isn’t everyone a lawyer with hundreds of hours to spend reading Eula’s?
Also fuck this noise. It’s made legal because people click agree to 10000000 pages of contract.
Well aware. And I trust Proton more than my local ISP.
Because the average person doesn’t have a clue and they never think about this kind of thing. I’ve been called a conspiracy theorist by my own father as well as othesr for mentioning Snowden revalatins and using a VPN and all the privacy steps I take on the web.
While I don’t know Japanese law, and folks are right in US law about prior art, I think everyone is missing the point.
Companies like Nintendo don’t have to actually win. They probably created this patent as a throw away to force Pocketpair to waste money fighting it. It costs tons of money to hire an attorney, work through the process, etc. It takes YEARS.
Nintendo probably wants to waste Pocketpair’s time and money OR they’re trying to get them to just settle and give Nintendo a cut of the profits.
That’s how big tech works with tons of patents and how patent trolls keep leeching off society. I have a patent for a button, you have a phone you’re making. I say give me 1% of your profit. What’s 1% to you? You agree, we don’t go to court and the next person that does it I do the same thing, but now I show them how many people agreed and that person is scared and think I have a legit case.
This shit is constantly happening in the background nonstop.
Patent law, copyright law, they are fundamentally broken. But they won’t get fixed until something BIG happens.
Nintendo is and always has been a bully. This is just another instance of it.
