You’ve likely run into a bad USB controller, firmware, cable, or driver. I’m which case: what do you want zfs to do about it? There isn’t really anything for zfs to do if the problem is lower in the stack than zfs.

Backblaze is also s3 compatible storage. I looked at Contabao and it isn’t very cheap.
I use backblaze and am happy with it.
