I mean honestly, yeah. With a simple 4 GB chip they could have won the low end and not screwed over gamers.
They’ve really seemed to have forgotten their roots with the GPU market, which is a damn shame.

Let’s look at specifically Nintendo here since we’re talking about Super Mario 64

2001, 664 million in profit, adjusted for inflation in 2022 dollars, 1 billion.
2022, 1.7 billion dollars in profit.
You forget that in 1996 the gaming pool was also magnitudes smaller compared to today and despite all of the whining about increased development costs, which I also think is bullshit but that’s a different conversation, profits have increased to keep up.
So my opinion, no there’s absolutely no justification for a 80 dollar price point when you look at the over all picture.
Probably because harshness, tight timings, and the game goes out of it’s way to screw with your ability to execute the dodges and parries it’s more reminiscent of the souls like, not to mention it’s more recent and active in the gaming zeitgeist.
No really. Is more of a traditional, linear story driven, turn-based JRPG, set in alternate France, that incorporates dark-souls dodge and parry mechanics in combat.
So much fun in a completely different way.
I honestly think it will sell a lot because most gamers won’t be able to control themselves.
I have no faith that this will be good.
Shame to not see some good come from this.

From what I can tell they recently got a few negatives that put them into “mixed” briefly because players were critical about QoL features, difficulty and whatnot, seemingly pretty valid types of reviews.
Sigh. They’re really trying to turn into the villain this generation aren’t they?
That’s a sad commentary on the current fan culture.
