  • Plenty of people are doing their commute as their training ride because it makes sense to do so,

Super convenient for them, but also very inconvenient for everyone else…

Which is my entire point about some cyclists being selfish assholes and them being the minority…

In another comment I mentioned how those selfish cyclists will always pretend they can’t be separated out, which I feel like is relevant here. And I know no amount of comments will change your mind because of that

  • I think part of it is that there are a lot of bike riders in US cities that are jerks

A lot of the ones an average driver interacts with are…

Especially in a city most cyclists are only on public roads on their way to/from a trail and they prioritize avoiding cars.

It’s just because of that, you never see them or don’t notice them as you drive by.

What everyone notices is the selfish dicks clogging up traffic, and they’re the ones who have made cycling a huge part of their identity, and they really want to pretend any criticism of them is a criticism of every bike rider, because it’s the only chance to defend the problematic ones.

They’re a tiny minority of cyclists, and most don’t like them either.

  • The road is theirs as much as it is yours.

People use the road to accomplish shit, going to work/school, get food, pick up kids, etc.

Someone decked out like Lance Armstrong to make their exercise take as little physical effort as possible and uses a route that’s not planned with others in mind both in time and location is selfish. Especially people who do it during rush hour, and inconvenience 100s or even 1000s of people.

There’s a big difference in that type of cyclist and someone that’s riding a bike in street clothes for a commute. And it doesn’t make sense to act like they’re the same.

Like, there are loads of cities with great bike trails, but they’re not going to be great bike trails on every street. And obviously cyclists who are inconsiderate aren’t exactly rare

  • So it’s my fault other people were wrong before, and because they were wrong, that can never be true?

Like, Martin has a decade long track record running DFL in Minnesota, you don’t need to take anyone’s word. And he’s been running the party for 9 months now…

Have you not looked into any of that?

Or is the difficulty putting it together? Because from what you just said this is a flaw of critical thinking, and that’s not something anyone can fix in a couple of social media comments.

But “logic” is an actual field of study, you can take classes in college on it. And there are free resources as well. It would be best for you to start there, because while politics is important, your flawed critical thinking is most likely negatively effecting large portions of your life at every turn.

  • Buddy…

No one is debating if Biden was a good president, the vast majority of people have reconciled that he was a piece of shit that wasn’t mentally capable to take care of himself let alone run a country.

    But:

and that is how we got here

Is obviously and clearly wrong, because the president before Biden was fucking trump.

And if you’re just talking about pardons being an issue, that’s been an issue long before trump.

The problem is a lot bigger than Biden or trump.

why not just get rid of both parties and start over?

Because for the first time in ~50 years we got a DNC that isn’t going to put it’s finger on the scale.

This is literally the worst time to “get rid of” the party system. 8-16 years from now? Sure I hope a lot of shit has changed. But giving up on the party now would just mean republicans win and the DNC voting members may seat a neoliberal as chair again.

You’re arguing that after running 26 miles we should give up on finishing the marathon, two blocks from the finish line.

What you’re arguing for is just illogical, you’re either ignorant of a lot of shit that’s pretty basic, or lack the critical thinking to put it all.together.

But regardless of the reason, you’re giving the worst advice possible

  • With no mention of the roads they drive on every day.

    They want toll roads too…

When you have a shit ton of money, you want everything taxed on use, not earnings.

Because you earn a lot and spend a very small percentage of that.

They view any individual that “gets” more than they personally pay in as a “taker”. Despite the entire reasons we have safety nets is statistically someone will need help.

But once no one anywhere benefits from it more than they paid in, it’s easy for the wealthy to convince us we don’t need it at all. Because it’s not benefiting anyone and has really becomes a waste.

    It’s very basic manipulation.

You can’t argue “what about roads!” Because they’re argue for toll roads everywhere or a tax on actual miles driven. Don’t let them set the argument, point out how no one knows who will need it till they need it, so we all pay in and hope we’re fortunate enough to not need it. But if we do, we don’t have to die in a gutter.

Don’t tug on heart strings, explain it as risk management and they might start to see the value

  • Guiness stopped doing “stay awake” records I think, and for good reason.

Staying awake more than three days is like how LSD is described in DARE and media. You start having “microsleeps” that last for a fraction of a second in the real world, but hit you with a 5-10 minute long dream.

That’s why meth heads are so crazy.

It’s not the meth directly, it’s staying awake for days on it

Like, when a meth head is in public relatively normal and then starts screaming and acting like someone just did something they clearly didn’t?

It’s because they just had a micro sleep dream and can’t differentiate that from reality.

Playing DDR for 144 hours had to be nuts mentally
