When I did have Instagram I did really like that it told me about local events, the downside that I had to scroll reels to get them. All those events listing websites don’t have the type of events I want to see. So there’s no places I know about them unless it’s from Instagram.

My two main fluent languages are not gendered. It was such a weird concept when I started to learn French.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do middle aged family men handle it?
2·1 month agoYou have an end point that’s pretty close, and that’s great! If you know that your load will lighten up after, keep at it.
Rely on your partner and friends for connection and help you through it. Be frank about your feelings. The people who turn to alcohol and adultery because of stress are the people that have been unfortunately told to keep it in and shoulder everything on their own, or unfortunately don’t have support. Find support and healthy outlets rather than turning to destructive substances or actions that are hard to take back.
Keep track of what’s important to you in the long run in the end.
You can do it!

Work Reform@lemmy.world•Scientists have been studying remote work for four years and have reached a very clear conclusion: “Working from home makes us thrive”
7·2 months agoThe article does have this caveat.
“Context still matters. Job type, home setting, and leadership quality vary. Yet the direction remains positive. Even with modest differences by role, the health and satisfaction curves point upward. Inside those curves, remote work behaves as a flexible option that organizations can calibrate rather than a rigid rule.”
Though I will say your argument is still centered around being productive and effective for the company (make money for the company), the article specifically centers around an individual’s well-being (sleep, family life etc.). So not the same metrics.
Other articles and research I’ve seen that did center on productivity did conclude that yes, it depends.

Technology@beehaw.org•'It's going to be really bad': Fears over AI bubble bursting grow in Silicon Valley
4·2 months agoRich people (top 10-20%) are either financially smart or have financially smart people advising them. They will be well diversified in all asset classes. And will have a lot of liquid capital ready to buy after the bubble bursts. And also keep themselves fat and well fed. The wealth transfers up.
Yeah I wonder why they don’t go anywhere else, as a non-profit, what incentives do they have to stay in the US?
There are many articles around this topic and offerered alternatives. Though I don’t think there’s a consensus yet. Companies and individuals who made the change all did something slightly different.

39·3 months agoTo add on, yes there is homophobia, but not the religious “they’re going to hell” type. Purely from a reproductive/family lineage stand point. People don’t care as much societally, unless it’s their own children, because that’ll end their own family lineage (but science babies is possible). Especially if it’s their only offspring from the result of the one child policy, the parents can be quite upset. If they had like 5 kids, and 1 is homosexual, most modern Chinese people would not care. But laws wise it’s still very don’t ask don’t tell, so there’s not many rights, but laws are generally not actively vicious.
Internally, China has been producing a lot of queer media. TV shows, comics, novels, animations etc. so far they mainly just need to not be “pornographic”
The crackdown on the media is bundled with restrictions on overt sexual content (gay or straight), video games, foreign media depicting “feminine” men (ie. Korean media), and whatever else they think distracts from baby making.
But queer media is judged a bit more harshly for sure.

It is true, though lacking fail safes of a real democracy is a dangerous game to play in the long term, even if technically positive in an instance. As most autocratic leaders seek to gain continuous and more power. Or their predecessor does.
I’ve had some while I was there, it was like beef but more tender, very good.

I don’t know this area well. But I have a strong preference for all port shapes to be the same where possible. Can USB-C shaped heads do the same thing as DisplayPort? If not now, is it possible to make it in the future.
