Not saying that the person in the post is correct in conflating those words, I don’t think that’s accurate at all.

However, it is disheartening to see so many ill-informed comments about fatness here… It’s way, way more complicated than just “calories in/calories out”. Even the extent to which it’s unhealthy is more complicated; obesity is linked to higher risk of heart disease, but also linked to higher probability of surviving strokes/etc. A lot of the problem stems from the fact that BMI is a nearly useless metric.

    No.

Maybe I’m way off the mark here but… I think the reaction to tankies seems very overblown. No one you could describe as a “tankie” is currently in charge of any of the countries/companies/organizations that are busy destroying the world right now, so I don’t super understand why everyone’s talking about them like they’re at all a priority? The authoritarians that tankies are obsessed with are all either long dead, or totally unaware of their existence.

Maybe some people on the left are just trying to look at future dangers here, like tankies are gonna be “Bolsheviks Part 2”, somehow come into power, and then purge all the anarchists or something. But didn’t Bolsheviks actually have a lot of power and influence prior to the revolution? Tankies don’t seem to.

  • Don’t you hate when that happens? Pictures are currently busted on my instance and the admin, while a pretty cool person I think, has been ominously quiet about it… 😅

Have we (Lemmy or the fediverse in general) ever landed on a “best practices” with respect to migrating accounts and one’s old content? Presumably if your instance goes down, any of your content that ever federated out exists somewhere or other, right? So could you just put a link in your profile, that leads to your previous account, but as seen through some (still existing) instance? Like: lemmy.b/u/old_account@lemmy.a

I guess that only works if by some chance instance b happened to catch EVERY post you made, which would require at least one person on b being subscribed to each community you ever posted in, right?
