They will just create a different one, like the atheists that are homophobic have.

You can be convinced, you will be wrong though. Religion is a means of justifying otherism, not the origin of it. People will just create another bunch of bullshit to justify why they aren’t bad people.
I know homophobes that are atheists. while religion being gone would decrease it, do not expect it to be gone just because of that. People will always have issues with people different than they are.
Yeah, I actually realized I didn’t mention that once I was off of lemmy a while. Brain not braining.
This isn’t trying to learn a language. This is memorizing a few key words to convey the most basic of necessities. I have lived in english speaking tourist places, and anytime it got popular, with a more culturally insular ethnicity (ie like people from the booming Chinese middle class who aren’t working in a place that places value on knowing english), it’s not that big of a deal. This happened A LOT with the economic miracle period, new middle class, of germany, and japan. Their inability to speak english isn’t what bothered me, or anyone else where we were, it was their crass disrespect of property, propensity to wander off, alone, into the wilderness, etc. that made them bad tourists. Their home media trying to blame us for some idiot, that wandered off into death valley, with only a small bottle of water, didn’t help. I can’t expect someone raised in those conditions to know my language at all, and I wouldn’t want them excluded, nor feel they should receive rude treatment, for not know how to say bathroom, or whatever.
However, if I spoke, say, simplified chinese, I would not continue speaking english to a chinese person I know I can’t speak english, to have a clear communication venue, in their language. As long as they are not acting in a manner detrimental to where I live, they are fine. Who am I to expect everyone to know my language? Why would I exclude those people to greater exposure to my culture if that bothered me? That would be oppositional to my desire for them to better understand my language. Just sounds like misplaced frustrations that come with living in any tourist spot. Depending on exactly what you feel/do, maybe xenophobia.
I have been working on learning spanish for a couple years, in my free time. That is a language that is rapidly rising in importance in my country. That is why people actually try to learn languages.

If I had to learn the language of every country I ever visited I would have never had time to visit those countries.
Some places in africa, and some islands in the indian, and pacific oceans?
I wanted to post this channel for a long list of reason, broken down in a forensic manner, as to why this is a bad idea, glad others were here, and thinking the same.
would you care to elaborate on what you believe should be done about this?
From their reply, I am assuming white
Did you kill the kid, beat them, or did you just throw them in jail?
Seems he resigned from that department but I can’t find anything about him other than a piece talking about his wife since then. Nothing about his stance on policing, his job, etc.
No idea actually. Haven’t heard much about him since the story came out. I will have to look up what came of this, if anything is out there to know.
One of the cops’ spouse worked in the school and they had to physically restrain him from going in
The mass school shootings didn’t really take off off until the mid 2000s. So we are really just seeing the generation of constant mass shootings come into adulthood.
When columbine happened it was rare for that type of shooting to happen at a school. The actual rate of school shootings was rapidly dropping by the late 90s too. It is still much lower than it was, only these mass shootings has increased. So, with it being, at the time, a rare event, and shootings in schools on a rapid decline, it just didn’t hit the way it seems to have affected gen z/alpha.
It is because there is actually no documentation of biden being associated with Epstein, like with Trump and Clinton, that was a lie, and the stuff about touching ranges from photos that are not nearly as weird looking when seen in the context of video footage, to videos that are more like him putting his hands on kids’ shoulders, patting their heads, etc., nothing really that strange for an old man interacting with small kids, a stretch to call it something sinister at best, and a claim that, while may be true, has a number of issues in its story.
It is, as they say, a nothing burger, unless something with a lot more strength behind it, comes forth.
i think it is older than that now isn’t it? I happened in 2016, i thought it came to the news in like 2019 or 2020… then again, life is like a blur to me, so…
Contemporary appliances actually do fail more often, and earlier, than their predecessors. They have added a bunch of extraneous things to what was a very simple, stalwart, design. These additions have drastically increased the complexity of their designs and created many fold more points of failure than there used to be. It isn’t so much that the manufacturing is sloppier, or that the materials aren’t as good, though in some ways that is a contributor, just not the main one.
If you by a recently manufactured fridge like the following, you will get a fridge that will last decades if you do the minimum to keep it in good condition. However if you buy one that has an in door ice machine, lcd touch screen, complex lay out that requires the basic mechanical devices, to keep the fridge cool, to have a bunch of extra tubing, wiring, connections, etc. it is much more likely to fail because of all the extra points of failure you added.
