But seriously my dad refused to switch to Windows from DOS for the longest time. 95? The best. 98? Can’t upgrade. Xp or die. 7 forever. 10 or bust. In 10 years it will be people clamoring over 11 and refusing to switch.
Not the person you responded to but you can turn any shoe into this. Lock laces. Instead of tying my shoes daily you can slip them on and off and they always stay exactly perfect. I adjust them mayyybe once a year. They’re like 10 bucks and make my shoes feel amazing.
This is what I do. I got a flushing ear thing specifically with the nozzle for ears on Amazon for like 10 bucks and it’s a game changer. I gotta do it yearly.

That’s a great observation about you hanging out around tractors as a kid and having that sense of awe. I had a similar thing as a kid with my grandpa working on semis and old cars. I really hope they do pull the game off despite my brain telling me this is all a house of cards. But exploring ships and space is so damn fun, this is the closest game to that. Tried all the X games and Elite and everything in between and SC, broke as it is, still has me holding out hope. At the very least if they never make it to a full release I hope someone else tries something similar. Starfield is fun but not scratching the same itch.
I used to work at a credit union in IT. I can confirm financial institution laziness knows no bounds. Separate from their laziness is the vendor compatibility. I can’t count how many vendors do not update their software to run on modern browsers and relied on specific IE instances. Adding to all that is just the institution itself having decades old hardware and software because modernizing things can be incredibly expensive. The core my company used was incredibly outdated Unix and required a ton of different middleware just to make sure we were compliant where absolutely necessary. If it wasn’t necessary nothing got done. And that’s better than a lot of banks that could be running on some COBOL based core. Completely redoing the core will affect every middleware crap solution they’ve patchworked together to keep running over the past few decades and will be insanely resource, cost, and time intensive.
Even these days at my current company I run into this shit. Huntington bank requiring IE for check processing, or SAGE DB software requiring 2013 Access or else it won’t work. These are huge companies still utilizing outdated piles of garbage.
I’m a little confused and not knowledgeable on this at all so I’m genuinely curious: if inflation goes crazy for years, like 8% for 4 years let’s say, why is there no concerted effort to drop it for a while, like -5% for 4 years, to “bring it back” to the 2% aimed for originally? If that makes sense. It seems like if inflation gets insane we’re all just stuck with it for the rest of time?

Honestly at this point I can’t tell if I’m happy or sad about things like Twitter going away. It was full of horrible discourse and bots and misinformation, but also helped a lot of people. Back in the day it was insanely helpful for directing large areas affected by disasters.

Your pally can lose their oath minutes after making the character. You become an oathbreaker with its own set of cutscenes and stuff. Alignment is very much in play at all times. You can kill party members or turn them evil or good. Sounds like everything is fair game.

Windows 2000 was for enterprise, not home use. 8 was for mobile & touchscreens (at first) and that failed miserably yes, hence their 8.1 release. Just like ME they tried hopping on a bandwagon and it flopped. Two major flops in 23 years is not a bad record. But my point remains that when whatever new OS comes out, people look back at the last one with rose tinted glasses.
