Why use a perjorative for her and not him?
Surely the 65 year old marrying a 24 year old deserves exactly as much shame as she does. Do you think his motives are any less selfish than hers?

One day, maybe white people will be held responsible for other white people the way you hold minorites responsible for their families. Maybe then you’ll understand how dumb it is to cherry pick the few worst of you, and pretend that they’re representative of the bunch. It is amazing how many white liberals are excited to see innocent people punished because someone who looks kinda like them voted for Trump.
What part of “undocumented immigrants can’t vote” did you miss there?
You’ve constructed this image of undocumented immigrants who support Trump, which is plainly stupid. In any group, maybe some people are idiots. But you’re trying to pretend that that’s ALL undocumented immigrants, masking your bloodthirst behind a few “If” statements.
Volunteer for a local charity that helps immigrants. If you see a bunch of MAGA caps then you might have something to say. I don’t expect that to happen.
It is both. It is a symptom of the inequality that my parents suffer and a driver of mine. Generational poverty is terrible for a society.
I think some people are reading an attack where none is meant. The article isn’t chastising people for helping their kids. It’s pointing out that that help is necessary now in ways that it was not before.
The article is “people cannot excel without support and if we like to imagine ourselves as a meritocracy we need to fix that”.
Okay.
So you are suggesting that an appropriate response to a humanitarian crisis is “good luck with that” because…some of their relatives voted Republican?
Do you feel responsible for all of your relatives, or is it just immigrants?

Did the article say it’s “not the super wealthy billionaires driving inequality” or did you just add that?
It’s good to talk about ALL drivers of inequality, don’t you think? The article is correct to point out that in today’s economy, if you don’t have your parents support, you have many fewer opportunities. That is a systemic issue that society should try to rectify.
Woohoo, that’s my boss! Explains a lot about the company.
Fun fact: we had to “return to office” last year. I had to move away from all my friends to a red state. Come to find out, there’s practically nobody in the office either. All of our work is done over zoom. It was just a “quiet layoff”, but I couldn’t find another job in time to quit.
That cat is high AF.
As if my brain would let me sleep. We have minor social faux pas from 15 years ago that we need to review again.
Yeah, I wonder why undocumented immigrants didn’t vote for Kamala…
Jesus Christ, every thread about deportations has some moron talking about leopards.
Undocumented immigrants can’t vote. I hate to take away whatever satisfaction you’re getting from human suffering here, but it is categorically not “leopards eating faces”.
Is that 39% the percentage of Asian Americans who voted for Trump? I bet most of those are rich enough that they don’t have to worry. What percentage of your demographic voted Republican? Do you deserve to be punished for them?
The world isn’t just and these people aren’t getting what they deserve. Put this energy into volunteering for organizations trying to help people. We have to stick together to get through the next four years.
It is absolutely disgusting how many people are letting their disappointment and fear turn into vindictiveness and anger.
They’re undocumented immigrants. By definition they didn’t vote for him, and you should really do some introspection to figure out why this is the first thought you had.
Nothing good, but nothing surprising.
Honestly, we probably know everything we could learn from a dead hippo carcass.
Yeah. I agree with the sentiment, but the cartoon is not at all clever or subversive.
She drinks wine while playing with her niece. He steals from cancer patients. It all evens out. /s
Most restaurants keep reservations in a $2.75 spiral notebook.
I doubt an online reservation calendar would be $10k for a single restaurant, but still…the only profit is marginal: the people who eat there who would have without the online calendar, and I doubt it would recoup the costs in a quarter or two. Especially considering that the wealth gap and tech gap mean that the number of people who want to schedule online is inversely related to the people who can afford to eat out a lot.
When I said “more data than is publicly available now”, did you think I was referring to a title on Lemmy?
The article includes someone they refer to as a “whistleblower”. The analogy with ACORN would be noted liar Jacob Wohl.
The article also includes a statement from FEMA Agency head, Deanne Criswell. I was talking about her when I said “idiot Democrats who fired the accused without even the slightest inquiry”.
On second thought, I’m not sure she’s a Democrat. I assume she was appointed by Biden. But the article does not indicate any sort of inquiry or have a statement from the manager involved.
Are you under the impression that only NC Republicans hate FEMA? This conspiracy theory is decades old. I suspect you are referring to Helene because you are ignorant of the long standing antipathy between Republicans and FEMA.
If you have any reason to believe Republicans aren’t threatening FEMA workers after Milton, feel free to share it. Otherwise, maybe wait for an investigation before jumping to conclusions.
You know 45% of Christians vote for Democrats, right? I think that was last election, I haven’t checked the recent one, but it’s a large fraction.
I know Christians have done a lot of damage, and the evil ones are incredibly loud. It’s still weird how some atheists think that only blithering idiots exist in religions.
