Dharma Curious@startrek.websiteto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•where are worker rights parades? why are we focusing on very limited issues?2·1 day agoThat’s one of the reasons I didn’t comment on the post itself, and only replied to another person. Because I can’t quite tell which way OP was leaning on that, and I didn’t want to be uncharitable.
Dharma Curious@startrek.websiteto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are you here and not on Reddit?10·2 days agoI’m a communist. I don’t mean to say I’m here because of the leftist population (though, that is nice sometimes, but as in any lefty heavy place there’s infighting and bullshit), but rather I have certain values that guide my decision making process, and one of them is not supporting massive corporations and shitty services when possible. Lemmy is an alternative to reddit that doesn’t benefit the same class of people as reddit, while actively benefiting the people who actually use it.
Dharma Curious@startrek.websiteto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•where are worker rights parades? why are we focusing on very limited issues?14·2 days agoI feel like ever since the term shifted from “gay liberation” to “gay pride” it has hindered the movement in a lot of ways. Liberation tells you what this is about, pride tells you… You’re proud? Good for you. Lots of people are proud, but not all people need liberation (or, at least, not everyone thinks they need it).
I vote we go back to calling it Liberation, and instead of bickering over why people are at the queer event and not a workers event, we start organizing monthly or bimonthly events, a queer/LGBT liberation event, a women’s liberation event, a worker’s liberation event, Hispanic Liberation event… Let’s pepper the calendar with parties and parades and protests while drilling into people’s minds that we are all deserving of respect, autonomy, and liberation.
Not sure how well I said all that. I’m about 5 boozy horchatas in, and I hate to do the “as a gay man” thing, but I feel like I should mention I am, in fact, a gay, and I quite enjoy pride and what it stands for
I had one, and it was great for listening to my CDs when I was laying in bed, but if I had to actually walk anywhere I took my walkman and a bookbag full of tapes (half of which were books on tape and not actual music lol). Dealing with the skipping was just too damn irritating. Walkman was the clear winner for my use case

Dharma Curious@startrek.websiteto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Therapy Chatbot Tells Recovering Addict to Have a Little Meth as a TreatEnglish33·4 days agoThis is what I keep trying to tell my brother. He’s anti-AI, but to the point where he sees absolutely no value in it at all. Can’t really blame him considering stories like this. But they are incredibly useful for brainstorming, and recently I’ve found chat gpt to be really good at helping me learn Spanish, because it’s conversational. I can have conversations with it in Spanish where I don’t feel embarrassed or weird about making mistakes, and it corrects me when I’m wrong. They have uses. Just not the uses people seem to think they have
Dharma Curious@startrek.websiteto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Wait, my body's own heat is enough? Always has been.3·6 months agoAlso, gotta say, I love Lemmy, but it still weirds me out being recognized across multiple communities. Like, noticing the same users in one subreddit over and over, or being recognized in the sub is one thing. But on Lemmy I notice the same names pop up in multiple communities, and have had people continue conversations from one community in another because they recognize the username. It’s a weird experience. I feel like I’m in Mayberry. Lol

Dharma Curious@startrek.websiteto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Wait, my body's own heat is enough? Finally settled on slrpnk, and only ever use this one when I accidently log into it without paying attention.
Dharma Curious@startrek.websiteto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Wait, my body's own heat is enough? Always has been.2·6 months ago32f is the same as 0c, and they’re both freezing. 0c is the temp at which brine freezes, but nobody really knows/cares about that. Where I live it down to -25f/-31c at least a few times a year, and normally you can expect at least a few weeks to a month below 32f/0c, but the last few years have been mild
Dharma Curious@startrek.websiteto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Wait, my body's own heat is enough? Always has been.455·6 months agoYeah, nah, I’m on the side of the government paying for utilities. Human right to electricity. Figure out a system to prevent overuse, but everyone deserves to have heating and cooling when needed.
That said, definitely wear a sweater in the winter if you can. Acclimate to the season and you’ll hate going outside a lot less, and need less heating in the winter. I typically don’t heat most of my home in the winter (I don’t have central heating). I just use a space heater in whatever room I’m in, and move it to the next room with me, and wear warm clothes. I’m in Tennessee, which routinely gets well below freezing in the winter. Not ideal, but it works

Yeah, it is. Ended up not being compatible on a new phone is why I switched, I think…forgot about it after.

I’ve been doing a lot of sewing. Mainly dog toys and pillows for making life a little more comfy :)

Dharma Curious@startrek.websiteto memes@lemmy.world•The perk is actually kind of a downgrade81·1 year agoI’m not gonna lie, I straight up love taco bell. I avoided it for years and years because of the stereotype about it making you sick or being cheap and gross. Then I was out a few years ago and had 2 dollars in change and an empty belly. That shit was good and no stomach upset. It’s now my go to fast food, especially considering it’s easy as hell to get veggie options.
Also, gas/bloat is not specific to taco bell, it’s fucking beans. Eat anything with beans and you’re gonna get gassy. Not directed specifically at you, just anyone who needs to hear this.
Dharma Curious@startrek.websiteto TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•We've come a long way from the Magna Carta10·1 year agoHonestly one of my favorite jokes. I love the stupid horse into a bar format, the misdirect that it’s going to be a deep philosophical joke, and the reveal reveal of a dad level pun.
I actually just used this a couple weeks ago in a discussion post for college.
Not too terribly long ago, clothing was super expensive. Like, make a dress from burlap or old feed sacks instead of buying something expensive. Some companies that sold feed and seed would print floral patterns on the sacks because they knew customers would turn the old sacks into clothing for their children.
I’ve never thought about VR for fitness. I have a VR that I never use. Any suggestions on an app that isn’t expensive? I’m fat and trying to be not fat. Lol
That’s not far off for some of us. That’s about 25 bucks a month, and until about 2 years ago I was making just enough to have about 30 bucks left over at the end of the month that I didn’t spend on bills or food. Then I did fairly well for about 2 years, with about 200 bucks a month left over… Then my mom passed away 2 months ago, and since my job was being her caregiver, I’m now jobless. :/ life sucks
