I don’t think the timing could ever be more right.
I’m a 26 year old furry. my fursona is a fox. I’m agender; any pronouns are fine with me.
I don’t think the timing could ever be more right.
I’m unsure if GTA V was ever Steamdeck Certified, but I imagine it might have to do with that. They may only offer this for games they said were certified and the devs broke it after the fact. I know Monster Hunter was.
Fair points! I was being somewhat hyperbolic. Compared to us, they are all-powerful, but, they are not in the grand scheme.
I couldn’t remember if the planes were infinite or not. But I knew they were at least their own worlds under the Daedra’s dominion.
One thing I do remember though is that Mehruns Dagon was actually created in Nirn by some of the Magna Ge before they peaced out. They created him because the Kalpa Nirn was in was being ruled over by an incredibly cruel and tyrannical race with no hope of change, so theh created the very embodiment of change, but realized too late they didn’t “install any brakes” so to speak.
And his name is John Cena Mahruns Dagon. So you’re right, he isn’t evil, it’s just in his nature to make things change. I don’t remember how he finally ended up banished from Nirn, but that’s why he believes Nirn is his by right, cause he was created there.
Valve has consistently offered refunds in these scenarios. They’re offering them for GTA V, and they also offered refunds for Monster Hunter when Capcom decided to switch their DRM bullshit and broke it on the Steam Deck. I think Valve has done their part.
They’re literally all-powerful gods that reign over their own worlds that are quite possibly the same size as, if not bigger than Nirn. They don’t play by our rules. I don’t think we can apply our conventions of sex and biology to them lol.
As I said: they can be whatever the fuck they want.
In a literal sense, yes. But they present themselves as male or female usually. So it’s still appropriate to refer to Boethia as “genderfluid” because they send to switch it up.
I’ve been saying this even before Bethesda went down the gutter. Everyone is pointing to their recent collosal failures like they wouldn’t still be disappointed even if ES6 was “perfect.”
I don’t think anybody can point out what, exactly, made Skyrim so fucking legendary. It was a buggy, unpolished mess of a game. Its lore was inconsistent. It had a villain and story that should have been deeply intriguing and interesting and yet it does Alduin a disservice and was, quite frankly, boring.
But somehow the game was fun. So fun that people spent an average 80 hours a week playing it, me included! And the only possible exploration is that Bethesda had passion, and then Skyrim inflated their egos. So I can see why people see their recent spree of lackluster-to-terrible games as a very valid reason for agreeing with Tod Howard, for once.
Set that aside, however. Let’s assume they “get it right.” Let’s assume it’s made with passion and recent history has humbled them. People will still be disappointed. Why? Because “it’s not Skyrim.” Just in the same way that hardcore ES fans hated Skyrim because “it’s not Morrowind.” Skyrim set the bar so astronomically high that it would take an absolute fucking miracle for them to, at bare minimum, meet expectation! And it would honestly be better that they didn’t, because then people would expect them to hit that milestone every, single time when the “secret ingredient” to Skyrim’s legendary success is so fucking aetherial nobody can say exactly what it is.
This, tbh. Propaganda is a hell of a drug. And the worst part is, it’s not a drug most people willingly take. They’re blindsided, their phycology is abused to suck them in, and before long, without even realizing it, they’re in a completely different reality, scared and paranoid. It’s terrifying and sad.
The last straw for me was that Amazon drivers always seem to have some kind of problem finding my apartment. So even though instructions say “leave at my door,” it always ends up in Parcel Pending on the other side of my complex.
NOBODY ELSE has an issue finding my apartment: UPS, USPS, Uber Eats, even fucking Door Dash! But I might as well be living in the Bermuda Triangle to Amazon, so WTF was I paying for Prime for?
And honestly, like so many others, I’ve found it not even the least bit tempting to go back. Ebay has been a reliable alternative.
Just another in an on-going series of “rich bastards figuring out that there’s no more money to take.”
Forget not working. It’s not even that I want to not work. I just want to not struggle to survive. I don’t want to have to work a gruelling 40 hours every goddamn week. I want to have the time to pursue other means of work, to contribute to society as a whole, not just to one, single company! Yeah, being able to have more time off would be great, but I don’t want to not work, I want to be able to contribute in my own ways too. And I can’t do that when I’m working 40 hours and still living fucking paycheck to paycheck.
I’ve been getting back into Guild Wars 2 lately! Nobara Linux has made the game run the smoothest it’s even been, and ReShade has it looking even better.
Terraria. Hands down. No other game I’ve ever played has had the same sheer amount of value for $10 fucking dollars.
A honorable mention would be Stellaris and good ol’ Skyrim. But their larger price tag definitely means that Terraria is greater value.
I understand your frustration entirely. And for the most part, I agree with it. But for music producers, especially if they’re indie, they have no choice. Content creators trying to make a living off of their art rely on putting themselves out there on the biggest platforms to maximize the amount of exposure they’re going to get. The importance of social media with millions upon millions of users for an indie artist cannot be understated. It is the difference between them paying rent, and getting evicted.
As for the average user, as others have stated, they have friends, family, and content creators that they like to follow. Digital privacy comes at a cost. We cannot afford to create the misconception that acts protecting our digital privacy are free actions. And the level of cost and willingness to pay it varies from person to person. I don’t need Facebook to keep up with my parents. But many people do. For their parents and the rest of their family and loved ones. I was willing to make the switch to Linux, but it cost me some simplicity in my gaming; some titles aren’t just plug n play. Even ones that were on Windows. Switching to Lemmy was nothing for me, but for some people, they’re giving up subreddits they loved, or they have to keep using Reddit to access them. And there are some valuable resources there.
Privacy isn’t free. It’s invaluable and sometimes the price tag reflects that.
So, if I understand correctly, and please correct me if I’m wrong, but the simplified version of this is: data collection allows massive cooperations to target Communities of Interest (CoI) and manipulate them by collectively altering their digital perception via a barrage of targeted advertisements, promoted articles and suggested social media posts?
And all of this leads to an eventual shift in the opinions and desires of said CoIs, leading to what the company would deem desirable behavior, be it growing apathetic to digital privacy, buying their product or growing more engaged with their platform?
Exactly this. I work for an ISP that uses radio towers and we don’t have over saturation cause we use proper data shaping during peak hours and backhauls that can handle the load. You know what we do if a tower gers over saturated? We cost balance for immediate releif then build another fucking tower to lighten the load.
