Imagine being sane, neither an steam only, pc master race enthusiast, nor a FOSS Linux 100% privacy and anonymity zealot.

2·1 month agoTo be fair, the IP is basically the only thing they can get, due their encryption they have access to the email body, which complies with privacy, but not anonymity.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think poor people will survive the US current economy?
1·1 month agoSurvive. Yes, humans are resilient. Live? No. I mean, currently MOST people on the world don’t know, and can’t know what it is like to live.

1·1 month agoTrue, I don’t think that applies to a FOSS centric community like lemmy tho, nothing wrong with that, it’s just that I think that the wrong expectations are in place, I could be wrong ofc

62·1 month agoThat’s not the problem, as long as one lives in a society, one is bound to participate in it, willingly or not.
If you do not use, someone else will, and sooner or later you will consume something made by said person.
Just “not using it yourself”, won’t cut it.

82·2 months agoJesus, I don’t know who hurt you or why you are so salty like that.
I’ll stop the conversation here, funnily enough, the way you keep repeating the same thing in a different way is just like AI.
My best wishes to you.

92·2 months agoHow would I search something I don’t know how it’s called? As I explained the AI is just responsible to tell me “hey this thing X exists”, and after that I go look for it on my own.
Why am I a moron? Isn’t it the same as asking another person and then doing the heavy lifting yourself?

121·2 months agoI’m no AI fan by any means, but it’s really good at pointing directions, or rather, introducing you to topics that you didn’t know how to start researching.
I often find myself asking: “Hey AI, I want to do this very specific thing but I don’t really know what it is called, can you help me?”. And sure enough I get the starting point, so I can close that down and search on my own.
Otherwise, trying to learn anything in depth there is just a footgun.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Time has somehow stopped, but you can move. What do you do?
1·3 months agoHum, I’d assume time stop would actually be better as super speed then. Almost close to light speed, enough to make things seem frozen.

2·3 months agoWould there be enough friction to cause that? I’d assume you wouldn’t be able to breath first, since the air wouldn’t go into your lungs

Technology@lemmy.world•People Are Using AI to Create Influencers With Down Syndrome Who Sell NudesEnglish
7·9 months agoDefinitely people, AI doesn’t do anything by itself, it’s a soulless tool.
Don’t get me wrong, I tried the switch, multiple times.
Where I live the vast majority uses pre-paid plans that give internet bandwidth, some calls but hardly no SMS, so that’s not an alternative, unless in an emergency or you want to contact someone unilaterally.
If I want someone to use it, they will have to convince their other circles to do the same, which statically decreases the chances of switching, and you get things like: “but we’re already talking fine on Whats (whatsapp)”, “it’s too much trouble to have another app just for you”, “I don’t care who’s behind the app, its works fine”.
To add salt to injury, many places (like stores, restaurants, salons, etc), have WhatsApp as the main communication method, some companies will even have the option to update you on things like delivery or banking solutions via WhatsApp.
It’s something so ingrained in our culture at this point that is super hard to change.
I’m not looking for solutions here, just stating a sad state of affairs, I like privacy but it’s not always an option living in society.
My trouble as well, I’d love to switch from Whatsapp, but literally every person I talk to and most people in my city/estate/country uses It.
There’s a “vendor lock” term, maybe this would be a “social lock”?

Honestly, it’s more about people than super heroes if get what I mean, the dialogues were so good that I often thought I was watching some animation of real conversations
