My understanding is that all of Messier’s catalogue are ‘mistakes’: he was looking for comets, and making notes of things that weren’t but might be mistaken for comets.
If he wasn’t truly in jeopardy the first time, he can be tried again.
Without being in-your-face woke: as many as are appropriate to the context.
Without “them” calling the story woke: none.
