- One for business and one for pleasure (lemmynsfw.com)
Well, I just joined today, so only one. But since you can subscribe and post to communities on any other instance, I’m not sure why I would need to sign up on another unless I wanted to change. That’s what makes the fediverse amazing.
More than 10. I’m still waiting the confirmations from some of the instances.
I read some weeks ago that lemmy instances are like email providers. So I’ve taken to hear the advice that I should try different instances before settle into one. It has also been part of my lemmy leaning process. I won’t recommend it, though.
Beehaw has chosen to defederate from lemmy.world so that makes sense.
Yeah I knew they had defederated, but didn’t fully think through joining Lemmy.world would have the same issues of not being able to see the entire Lemmyverse.
Joined lemmy.world on June 12th, around July 3rd when it got overloaded I joined vlemmy.net, been happy ever since. So 2 instances. I still sometimes check lemmy.world to see if my posts/comments are posting because vlemmy is facing federation issues due to the reddit HoD.
Two: First on world, but it was pretty laggy so I changed to lemm.ee. The entire experience is better.
Exactly the same!
I still admire and am super thankful to @ruud for all the time, effort and money he and his friends are pouring into trying to optimize world.
One, lemmy.ml but want to change to a smaller one, any recommendation?
I opened an account in lemmy.world first, simply because I didn’t know better. Then I realized that it’ll be a good idea to stay on a smaller instance. Been with lemmy.sdf.org since and I’m pretty happy with it.
What are the advantages of being on a smaller instance?
Less people, lower chance of defederation. Also, faster servers, and I love SDF as an organization even beyond the fediverse.
I moved from lemmy.world to lemmy.ca. It just loads faster.
Two because I instantly got banned from the first one
Why? what did you do?
I said that the lemmy.ml admins were marxist-leninists, I’m still unsure what was controversial about it
Ayy, lmao
Hmmm
Haha I cannot say for sure. I certainly started to duplicate my credentials… so now I’m more likely to be logged in as BendyLemmy.
So initially it was Lemmy.ml (which wasn’t working too well) and it got annoying that I wasn’t logged in when opening links - so BeeHaw, Lemmy.world, https://fosstodon.org/ is BendyToy,…
One thing I’m finding useful now in Bitwarden is that I can autofill and copy (so just refresh for a new password) to get the same username for each one… but it’s kind of getting out of hand.
It’s a little frustrated that we can’t use a kind of centralised profile - like the way an ‘opendesktop’ account can be used to log in to various instances of websites. If I log in the Opendesktop website, and then go to Mastodon, I find my Opendesktop account gets logged in there - so there’s more fragmentation.
Overal it is just very confusing.
One day I hope we have federated identities. The tech exists but it’s not yet woven into how Lemmy does things.
Two. Started on sopuli.xyz then made one on lemmy.world.
I’m still not super certain how lemmy works, but there seems to be more activity on lemmy.world. Also, when I tried subscribing to communities on sopuli, most of them said “Pending” and I still wasn’t subbed after a couple days. Lemmy.world seems easier.
Hey I’m still on sopuli only, did you notice a big difference from having the .world account?
3 so far… but it’s mainly trial and error.
Started off with Lemmy.ml then wanted a bigger instance.
Moved to Lemmy.world then ended up having too many users and lagging.
So I moved to a good compromise: Lemmy.blahaj.zone
But yeah. Three so far with the exact same username 😬
I’m on Lemmy.blahaj.zone because my lgbt wife loves blahaj and I figure it will make her more comfortable when she eventually moves to Lemmy. Don’t feel the need for another instance.
I’m on lemmy.world (which is being crushed by new users) and infosec.pub. Considering just spinning up my own server.
