I’m a us citizen and we could easily process her visa, but why would we go there. What does America have to offer?
It’s not a popular view, but the US does have some pretty great salaries. I think FIRE people have the best chance of success in the US.
That said, the work experience here is pretty exploitative and not at all engineered to give a good life. If you want a family, and want that family to enjoy their life with a reasonable work life balance, the US is not a great place.
The US has good salaries, but the cost of living is too high. FIRE is what everyone should be doing, but one mistake or accident can really screw things up. The main difficulty for people trying to do FIRE is the cost of house and transportation.
I guess that depends on what op’s job is. It could be a US job that can be done entirely online. But yeah, the only redeeming quality about working in the US is the high salaries in high demand jobs and tones of companies to choose from.
Familiarity and closeness to relatives. At least that’s why I’d never try to talk my retired parents into moving to another country.
If those aren’t concerns then I really don’t see much reason to stay.
