I can agree with you, the initial experience can be daunting for new users especially since majority of communities are of political nature.
This experience honestly is why i think most people now reside in such communities - as that’s the experience with me.
In addition, I can agree with extremist stances being prominent on here. Eco-fascism is one of those that I found common even when I was only part of the “basic” communities.
