Spotted lake in Osoyoos BC, Canada. The Lake is situated in the only true desert in the country: Osoyoos BC. The lake is coloured naturally from the minerals in the area. No, you cannot get any closer.
Correction: “you cannot get any closer legally”
I’ve seen many people to over the fence. Not a great idea at all.
Just curious: why not?
Ecological and cultural(First Nations) protection
That’s a lot better then being barred by a corporate dairy farm.
The Nk’mip First Nation have a desert cultural interpretation centre and walking paths in the area. You can see rattlesnakes and scorpions that they are protecting. It’s well managed ecologically.
(The website seems to be under reconstruction.)
They also have their own winery.
Well worth a visit.
This is one of those minor things that people argue about anyways, but supposedly Osoyoos isn’t a “true dessert”. Or at least, it isn’t the only dessert because little Ashcroft is one too. It’s a part of the town’sidentity as well.

The lake looks cool! Does it change much over the course of the year or does it often look spotty?
