Probably not the smartest thing to say when everyones being squeezed to make ends meet.

We’re really going to have Dutton for PM aren’t we…

I don’t know. By asking Australians to make up their own mind about what they purchase over trying to bring tariffs in retaliation hopefully it will draw less ire from the the US.

Plus most staple goods are primarily Aussie made and manufactured (bread, milk etc.). So asking to think about Aussie produced products it won’t massively increase the cost of living (hopefully).

No I know, I’m personally going to boycott American products.

I just feel like it would appeal more if he imposed retaliatory tariffs, I know that the situation is more nuanced than that and we’d be stooping to the Oompa loompas level.

But I’m just hoping this doesn’t give off the impression that Albanese is spineless with the upcoming election because we actually cannot afford to have another Liberal government in power so soon.

I don’t think so/I hope not. As someone already pointed out he’s a fascist - and wants to be an Aus Trump. People here, mostly, don’t want that. So by appealing to Australians he looks better. And also said basically ‘Trump is stoopid & these tariffs are dumb’. So win-win.
