Your Minecraft account could be lost forever if you don’t take action right now, as the iconic Mojang building game finally completes the long-running transition to Microsoft accounts. If you want to keep playing, and enjoying all those fantastic Minecraft seeds, the deadline to update your account is fast approaching. We have all the details on Minecraft account migration below, so make sure you don’t miss out.
Players who registered a Minecraft account with the early Java Edition have so far been able to access the game using their original Mojang login details. However, this will soon no longer be possible, as the studio says that every Minecraft player needs to migrate over to a Microsoft Minecraft account and the game’s later Bedrock Edition. Without migrating, Minecraft players registered to the Java Edition won’t be able to log onto the game at all via Minecraft.net and the Minecraft Launcher. YouTube Thumbnail
The deadline for Minecraft account migration is Tuesday, September 19 at 8 am PST / 11 am EST / 4 pm EST / 5 pm CEST / 3 am AEDT on Wednesday, September 20. Microsoft Minecraft accounts have access to two-factor authentication and, according to Mojang, “improved security and player safety.” Upon migrating, players also receive a free in-game Minecraft cape.
the title reads like a phishing email
Yeah hey that game you bought? Fuck you, jump through hoops.
That’s on you for buying a licence to play the game and not the actual game.
Fuck that stupid word game.
Finally did this a week or so back, I had one of the original accounts (username login, not email). Made me feel like shit and manipulated, all to make Microsoft happier.
Yup. I changed mine a while back for my kids to play with, and now it’s all tied to MS. I considered buying another license, but screw em.
If you don’t want to migrate to Microsoft check out minetest/mineclone for a free and open source alternative.
Tried it, unfortunately the (tedious) things that made me disinterested in MC were carried over (not wowed by other options, either).
I migrated my account ages ago, and I keep getting emails telling me to migrate anyway. These messages are sent to the Microsoft address I migrated to.
I contacted support, and they told me everything’s fine, my account is properly migrated, and that I should ignore these messages, since they’re probably attempts at phishing. (That look 100% legit, might I add. Nothing about these messages looks alarming or wrong in any way, which is what made me contact support in the first place.)
That microsoft account of mine never received any questionable messages before, so thanks for leaking my data to malicious actors, I guess.
It’s been a really long time since I last played this, but wasn’t the java edition the go-to for modding? Has that changed lately? If it hasn’t it’d be a bit of bummer to lose that huge modding scene.
You should be playing better games, anyway https://www.vintagestory.at/
It really is. It’s great seeing how much progress the game had made in a few years, although it’s still far from perfect.
Interesting. Thank you!
I’d be happier if the site didn’t violate the GDPR
A bit of added context:
They are based in Latvia, which is part of the EU, so subject to the GDPR. And under the GDPR, the use of Google Analytics is in fact unlawful without getting explicit and informed (that one’s very important) consent from the user.Article 44 is the relevant one here, detailing data transfers to so-called third countries outside the EU.
The trailer video makes it look full of micro-management. Micro-blocks to construct tools?
