Anti-abortion leaders said Wednesday that they’re undeterred after Donald Trump said he would veto a federal abortion ban, the first time he has explicitly said so after previously refusing to answer questions on the subject.

During Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate, the Republican presidential nominee posted on his social media platform Truth Social that “everyone knows I would not support a federal abortion ban, under any circumstances, and would, in fact, veto it.”

He then said that abortion rights should be left up to the states — his most common response to questions about the issue since Roe v. Wade was overturned by a conservative majority that included three of Trump’s own appointees to the Supreme Court. In the two years since the ruling, abortion rights have emerged as a major vulnerability for the GOP, which has struggled to find a consistent message on the path forward, while driving turnout for Democrats.

I think you ascribe more intent to his statements than actually exists. “Lying” implies that he has an actual intent to mislead. The reality is that he doesn’t care one way or the other. He will do or say whatever he thinks will get him the most support at any given time, regardless of what he has said or done in the past.

He will say literally anything to get elected, but if he wins, he’ll do whatever the Heritage Foundation says.

We know this because it’s exactly what happened in 2016, especially in regards to reproductive rights.

… “everyone knows I would not support a federal abortion ban, under any circumstances, and would, in fact, veto it.”

Which means that Trump would 100% sign a federal abortion ban, got it.

JD Vance’s response to abortion rights was ‘we need to get women to trust us’, so yeah I’d imagine its pretty dismal.

He might hypothetically veto legislation (which would never get through Congress anyway), but he’ll appoint Supreme Court justices who will effectively do the same thing.

And this is exactly how we know they’re lying when they say “Abortion should be left up to the states!”

Also they are fine with dead children; it’s dead fetuses they can’t stand.
