New battery for your phone? US Customs says fuck that. So used battery from the scrap bin you get.

Disclaimer: I quit that industry back in 2017.

customs is weird about batteries. batteries have a lot more restrictions if you want to transport them not inside of a device.

I am explaining. I worked in the industry for many years.

We regularly replaced screens and batteries. But God forbid we get access to new batteries, oh no, we had to replace customer’s batteries with other used batteries.

I’m telling you the truth here, and also telling you why I quit electronics repair in 2017.

        Shit’s crooked yo.

US Customs doesn’t allow lithium batteries to be transported overseas.

Does that make enough sense to you?

Agreed. I thought they were saying they worked for US customs and they would send you a used battery instead of the one you ordered. Which makes no sense but thats how it read. I also wanted more context and agree that OP reacted strangely to your request for elaboration.

He’s also full of shit. If you get batteries from a reputable source (most shops use something akin to MobileDefenders or MobileSentrix), you’re generally fine. Shit, just before I left, my shop had secured a deal with Apple to get first-party, new batteries stocked. Black magic legal fuckery, probably.

If the pay had been there, I would still be doing that work. It was enjoyable and people were usually extremely grateful.

I remember there was one teenage girl in tears because she was afraid to tell her parents she had broken her phone. AT&T, the worthless sacks of shit, told this poor kid it’d be $200+ to get it repaired, she’d have to have it shipped off, and the phone she got back wouldn’t actually be hers.

I told her I could have her XR’s screen replaced for $120, and it would take me about 45 minutes, and I’d never seen a kid so relieved. Little things like that make customer service bearable.

I love how you folks are ragging on me for calling out the crooked company I quit working for in 2017. I’m not the one full of shit, Cellular Citi is.

Because the way you told the story, you were framing the whole third party repair industry as being crooked. Your experience may have been shit, and that shop may have used sketchy batteries from weird sources, but you stated it as though all shops do that, and that is objectively false.

                Now fuck off.

I’ve worked for 4 different repair companies, and once the manufacturers decided to start sealing the batteries inside the device, not a single one of those companies could obtain official new batteries.

So please tell me where 3rd party technicians can get official brand new batteries…

And you can back off with the cursing.

Alright, so you went from the whole industry to one company to… four. Got it.

I’ve already stated where we sourced our batteries.

And I’ll curse if I fucken want to.

My brother, I’m not the one typing curse words in all caps.

I’m just telling you the truth, that our shop did not have access to actual new batteries, and our boss was crooked AF and would hock whatever used batteries he could conjure up out of junk parts.

And I quit that company back in 2017. Act like I’m the bad guy, I quit because I have a conscience.

Bruh, you asked me a question, in a rather rude way I might add. All I did was reply to your question, honestly and reasonably respectfully.

Yes, yes I do. It’s a straightforward question that only asks a yes or no answer, or a rebuttle with other evidence and information.

I didn’t sling curse words at other users in all caps. So yes, I’d like to think I was reasonably respectful.
