That’s what bothers me more than anything about the whole conversation. It’s like this reaction of “Well you must be the ENEMY, you really hate trans people and you’re just LYING about wanting to study the drugs, even you being allowed to say that is TERRIBLY DANGEROUS. Just approve the drugs, they’re clearly safe, because I say so, and if you disagree there’s something TERRIBLY WRONG WITH YOU.” I don’t know how else to say it: I am not the enemy, I don’t think.

This is a strawman, created by right wing media using the opinion of fringe leftists that don’t actually have any credibility whatsoever. It’s the oldest trick in the media book: find someone with an opinion so far past the norm of that group and present it as the baseline. It skews the conversation towards discounting all arguments by a group by associating them with the insane arguments of the new “baseline” they have chosen. It makes both sides angry and drives up engagement. Both Dems and Repubs do it, all the 24 hour news networks do it, most publications do it these days. We are susceptible from all directions.

PERSONAL OPINION TIME: The difference between Dems and Repubs is Dems will see the strawman and say “that’s not me,” but the Repubs will see it and say “Hey! That’s me!” 🤣

I was talking about the reaction I was getting in this thread, not anything from any outside source.
