You are serving yourself pasta and you have zero access to tomato sauce. All you have in your pantry is ketchup (catsup.) Would you eat the plain pasta, or add ketchup for flavor?

You have NO ACCESS to tomato sauce. You cannot leave to buy any, you cannot call a friend to bring you any, you cannot order any, you cannot make your own sauce, and any other bizarre loophole. It is what it is. What do you do?

Salt and/or butter with a little pepper and garlic powder. Or pesto, mmmm. Plenty of shit other than tomato that can go on pasta.

Pesto Pasta it is! Alternatively I could go for a nice white or cheese sauce, or if those are all cheating answers well seasoned butter noodles are a good simple dish. 🍝

If the ingredients were around, I’d cover it in butter and garlic powder. Otherwise I’d go plain before I did ketchup. Disclaimer: I’m not a big tomato sauce fan, but I don’t dislike it either.

I second this! Butter and garlic make the most amazing simple pasta dish. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even sprinkle on some parmesan cheese as well.

Absolutely. Pre shredded parm works in a pinch, but I’m big on fresh shredded cheese as a whole. Pre shredded is coated in corn starch or some other anti stick powder that makes melting not as good. You could even sitting s but of Italian season for a little extra pizzaz.

If my only options are literally (I’m assuming cooked) pasta plain, or with ketchup added, I’d 200 percent eat just the pasta.

When i was a kid my favorite dish was spaghetti with ketchup and fried wieners. As a grownup I sometimes enjoy plain spaghetti with black pepper. So it depends whether I have a pepper grinder in this scenario.

Is that a loophole though? I don’t really like tomato sauce on my pasta anyway, I’m not replacing tomato sauce on my pasta with anything new, I’m just making how I like it anyway, access to tomato sauce is irrelevant.

When I was a kid, I always put ketchup on my spaghetti cause my mum used to do it too. Years later I found out how weird it is, and I haven’t done it in the last decade and a half (I just use tomato sauce).

BUT it’s not bad, I guess I’d do it were I feeling adventurous. It’s too sugary though.

Personally, I would use the ketchup. This post is adapted from experience from when I once had no tomato sauce and used ketchup and got hooked. Sometimes when there isn’t enough sauce I add ketchup to the pot. I turned this into a dare question like this because apparently this is a food sin, like pineapple on pizza.

    (Which I also enjoy.)

At least one a year I go to a pizza joint while traveling and get pepperoni, jalapeno, and pineapple. I generally don’t enjoy the tradition Hawaiian (Canadian bacon and pineapple) but the jalapenos offset the sweetness of the pineapple, and pepperoni > Canadian bacon.

There are lots of other sauces you can make. Carbonara, alfredo, lemon garlic, even just butter and maybe a little Parmesan cheese would be excellent.

But ketchup would be interesting, as an experiment.
