I just wanted to be a bro and throw this info out there so people know.
It changed overnight and the penalties for driving without a valid license can be fines or jail.
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Aussie Enviro@aussie.zone•More than a thousand koalas shot in aerial operation2·2 months agoWhat the hell. Wouldn’t this have been a job for wildlife rescue and park rangers?
Am I missing something?
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Sydney woman who sold a cartoon cat T-shirt told to pay US$100,000 in Grumpy Cat copyright case | Australia news | The GuardianEnglish3·2 months agoYeah. I’d love to see what the courts have to say about everyone’s personal photos and art or writing being scraped for profit without permission or compensation
Edit: Ps. Meta did not allow Australian users to ‘opt out’. And the companies involved have
most likelyalmost inevitably stolen images of children.
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•From $30 parmigianas to $15 pints, can Australia still afford the pub?English2·2 months agoFor me? lol no
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Swapping out red meat and creamy pasta sauce could significantly cut household emissions, Australian research findsEnglish1·2 months agoYes. It sucks that the onus is further being put on individuals. While companies and wealthy people that consume energy or pollute on a massive scale don’t seem to face the same restrictions
(As someone who already drinks non-dairy and can’t eat meat.)
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Swapping out red meat and creamy pasta sauce could significantly cut household emissions, Australian research findsEnglish3·2 months agoAgreed, I’ve said this a lot. The builds are wasteful in that way
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•'Not the laws of Australia': Sex discrimination chief reacts to UK ruling on definition of a womanEnglish5·2 months agoYes. And probably. The end goal is for trans people or anyone who doesn’t neatly fit the binary to be harassed into the closet.
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Victoria to ban state school logos on shorts, pants, skirts and socks from next yearEnglish3·3 months agoThey should do it for the top half too. Just have set styles and colours so parents can buy whatever is affordable
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Australia’s science agency sent questions from Trump administration asking if it is taking ‘appropriate measures’ against gender ideologyEnglish2·3 months agoUgh. Both options suck.
I don’t want to be part of the mango madness and also recognise that we could be in a bad position to fight back
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Australia’s science agency sent questions from Trump administration asking if it is taking ‘appropriate measures’ against gender ideologyEnglish21·3 months agoWhat the actual fuck is happening
So like universities and scientific organisations have to fall in line with whatever odd ideas this guy thinks up to go after, or they lose the funding for research?
I really don’t like this direction. This is an unreasonable amount of control and a dangerous precedence to set

melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•'Limited incentive' for Coles and Woolworths to compete vigorously on price, and margins have risen, ACCC findsEnglish4·3 months agoUnfortunately delivery or transport probably ups costs… Which is why Aldi doesn’t deliver. Really sucks for someone who requires it
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•'Not sustainable': The heavy price your 6c tea bag is exacting on othersEnglish3·4 months agoThat’s messed up. Certifications should be inspected and enforced.
Any idea which brands are ok? I see Dilmah doing a lot

melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•TIL: Deer are popping off down hereEnglish121·5 months agoIn America there’s a few programs that donate hunted meat to the disadvantaged. Usually called Hunt for the Hungry or Hunters for the Hungry etc.
Seems Australia is thinking along those lines too https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/nov/12/deer-meat-for-homeless-shooters-fishers-and-farmers-party-mp-hunters-hungry
melbaboutown@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•TIL: Deer are popping off down hereEnglish5·5 months agoIn Alaska there’s a lottery where you get permission to take a hit moose home for the freezer. I’m not kidding. It’s called the Roadkill Lottery and it’s government official.
And since one can feed a family for months people will be excited for you if you get that call, like to them it’s a stroke of luck and good news.
Seems weird and I’d worry about hygiene/storage/disease (there are concerns about humane killing and hygienic transport with roos) but in a place with such food shortages it would be a shame if some idiot just took the horns and left the rest to rot.
I really don’t care if they don’t stock it… I don’t buy any of that tat and don’t celebrate Australia Day beyond just appreciating a day off.
If they want to do more they could make food and basics more affordable but they won’t

Not a good thing in Australia :/
It’s a shame that sun umbrellas and sun visors aren’t more normalised here like in Asia
