CXORA@aussie.zoneto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Views about Christian prayers in public school, by stateEnglish8·14 days agoThat’s the thing. It’s not enough that they’re free to follow their religion, they need to force everyone else to follow it too.
CXORA@aussie.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Socialism is the actual teaching of JesusEnglish1·18 days agoWhich part of status quo did he oppose? Personal wealth, yes, but that tends to be a common cult leader position. That followers should give everything to the cause.
Other than that Jesus commanded to render unto ceaser what belongs to ceaser.
CXORA@aussie.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Socialism is the actual teaching of JesusEnglish22·18 days agoMatthew 25:41
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels."
It’s part of a parable, but if we disregard parables then “jesus’ teachings” becomes a small pamphlet.
But I’d be keen to hear where jesus advocated for abolishing human hierarchy. Nothing comes to mind immediately outside Paul’s letters.

the status of your child does not tell us whether or not you were a slave
-
this is just false. Foreign slaves were kept for life.
-
see 2
-
somw slaves having a “better life” than some free people is a common whitewashing tactic, which doesn’t make it not slavery.
-
having restrictions against the cruelest and most injust masters does not mean it isn’t slavery.

I never said a single tool causes issues. I said abandoning existing tools to only use the new thing is a problem.
See people who want to only use the newest frameworks, to the point of re-building projects when they come out.
See people who fixate on a single design pattern and insist on using it in every application.
CXORA@aussie.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Socialism is the actual teaching of JesusEnglish43·19 days agoJesus was an authoritarian. He believed there should be one being with ultimate power and control who everyone else should obey unquestioningly.
He believed that this being was better than every living person. That any person who disobeyed the ruler should be tortured. That we are only alive, only well, only happy, if the ruler permits it.

CXORA@aussie.zoneto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Fake dentist arrested after Googling how to do a root canal - DexertoEnglish16·19 days agoNot using the nonsense machine doesn’t mean we have to abandon the whole rest of the toolbox.
Jumping on the new shiny thing and relying on it over all the other tried and tested tools is the core re-occuring mistake in development.
CXORA@aussie.zoneto Work Reform@lemmy.world•Republican Senator callously says 'biblically, we are supposed to work' to millions set to lose health careEnglish42·19 days agoAs long as you don’t pretend the bible didn’t permit slavery were all good.
CXORA@aussie.zoneto Work Reform@lemmy.world•Republican Senator callously says 'biblically, we are supposed to work' to millions set to lose health careEnglish12·20 days agoThis is a nit pick. The bible permits the selling and owning of people as property. Whatever you want to call it, that is immoral.
I’m not sure why you’re conflating “don’t hoard things you don’t need” with consumerism.
There’s certainly ways to do that irresponsibly, but it’s not part of the philosophy.
They’re not eating it either way.

Never ended up finishing it though.

You are talking about different things.

That’s a level of control i don’t think any organisation or government should have.
CXORA@aussie.zoneto pics@lemmy.world•Brian Carr, chairman of the FCC, replaced the american flag with Trump’s headEnglish81·2 months agoBanning religion full stop is wrong and won’t stop belief.
However, religion should not have any special protections that other groups do not get.
Religion should not exclude people from mandatory childhood vaccines, religion should not be a mitigating factor in vilification or defamation cases etc.
Huge fan of Princess Mononoke.
Not sure what exactly it is, but the characters and setting have just stuck with me since the first time I saw it.
That’s what makes it fun!
