Playboi Carti’s latest album features a song engineered by a popular AI music creator who has used famous artist’s voice to make songs. Kanye was accused of the same in his latest albums.

I’ve seen comments saying artist should be able to use AI for their own voice because producers don’t actually play the instruments used for songs.

IMO, I disagree seeing as producers are still making the actual song and contributing a large portion to it. An artist using AI, even if it’s their own voice (which they own). Means they’re contributing absolutely nothing to the song other than their written verse. Even worse if they didn’t write it themselves.

Your thoughts?

Any song fully created by AI should be required to be labeled as such. Like in the writing credits it should say “all instruments and vocals created by AI, no actual artists were involved in any part of its production”

It should also be noted in the songs title so no one listens to it by accident

A song fully created by AI has no artistic merit and exists solely to generate income for someone with no actual musical ability.

I agree with all of what you said. Just to add. I’d block any music like that on my streaming app.

Since he was part of like 3 other songs on that album: I wonder what Kendrick Lamar’s coment would be, as he was very clear about AI when AI Snoop dogg and AI 2pac were used in a song towards him

If the intent is to make it sound like another person is involved in the song, then they should have the choice about whether their likeness is used. Audio impersonation is equivalent to visual impersonation.

Note: humorous additions like obvious caricatures are the exception

It’s lazy and wienery, sure. But I don’t see how it’s any less so than using shitloads of auto tune or using a sample as like 90 percent of your song.

Auto tune you still have to be able to sing to make it sound good. Sampling can be an art form.

The difference here is that you could pay musicians if you don’t play an instrument. Using AI shit just means you’re taking art away from artists

Yeh I guess. Idk I don’t really listen to the kind of stuff that has that stuff in it very much anyway. Musicians deserve to be paid tho.

Musicians pay the current owner of the samples, which is occasionally the original creator. They don’t just get to sample anything at any time.
