Witness the interplay of earth, water, and straw to create in-fill walls for a hand-crafted timber frame structure.

Stone, clay, bamboo and straw are combined to create beautifully finished walls. Many hands come together, to gather stones, make adobes, mix cob, harvest bamboo to build natural walls that are durable and breathable. Multiple methods of cob, adobe blocks and wattle & daub are combined to create a unique mix of artistic textures and lines. Witness as walls are made smooth with clay plaster and decorated with simple relief designs, and even metal doors made from scratch as the metal wood shop takes final form.

There is an organization in Portland, OR that used to (still maybe does?) build cob structures around the city. Bus stop waiting areas, park benches, and the like. They also do a lot of other cool projects like; intersection murals, events with music and speakers, community clean ups, place making and whatnot.

    Check them out here: https://cityrepair.org/

Growing up with my nana she had an old adobe house that she and my great-grandfather had built up. It was a thing for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren during summer to help make new bricks or slather on new layers of mud to help keep it up. It was wonderful during the winter time, easy to warm the entire house by her cooking an entire meal. Don’t realize how effective it is until you spend a winter night in it.
